FAQ's

Below is a list of commonly asked questions with answers:

Registration & Packet Pick Up Questions

Can I pick up a packet for a friend of family member? Yes

Should participants pick up their packets early? YES, please plan to pick up your packet early.

Am I guaranteed a race shirt? All pre registered participants are guaranteed the race shirt size they requested during the registration process. Race Day and Packet Pick up sign ups are not guaranteed the shirt size of their choice, shirts will be given on a first come first serve basis. We will do our best to get everyone the shirt size they want.

How can I get a race shirt if I do not want to participate? You may register as a participant to receive a race shirt. You do not have to compete if you do not wish to do so. You may pick up your shirt and bag at the early packet pick up.

What will we receive at packet pick up? You will receive your race shirt, race number w/ timing tag, and race goody bag.

What type of timing is being used? Start2Finish Event Timing will be timing the event. Your timing chip will be on the back of your racing number bib. Participants must where their number on the FRONT of their outer most garment. Participants must wear a race number bib to get an official time and be included in the results.

Race Day Questions

Where is the race located? The Viking Half Marathon will start and finish in the historic Cotton District Row of Greenwood, MS.

What time does the race start? Half Marathon will begin at 7:30am. The 5k will begin at 8:000am.

Is there a time limit for the half marathon? Yes, the half marathon course will close at 11:00am, which is 3 hours and 30 minutes after the start of the race. This is a STRICT CUTOFF. If you are still on the course at this time, you will be asked to get in a race provided vehicle. We want everyone to finish the race. We also have to keep in mind that we have a lot of streets closed and tying up a lot of resources.

Where is the race start? The race will start on East Market Street in front of the Greenwood Courthouse.

What if it is raining/snowing on race morning? The race will happen rain, snow or shine

Where are the water stops? Water stops will be located approximately every other mile. We encourage all runners to run with their own water as well.

When should I arrive? Most runners plan to arrive at an event 1 hour prior to race start time. If you have not picked up your packet at a packet pick up, please arrive at least 1 hour in advance of race start.

How long will it take to find a place to park? Around 5-10 minutes. Please arrive early, the only parking is behind the start line. If you arrive 5 minutes before scheduled race start, you will more than likely miss the race. Plan to arrive early.

Where do I park? Parking will be allowed in and around Downtown Greenwood.

Are baby joggers/baby strollers allowed in the race? Yes, please start towards the end of the pack.

Are walkers allowed to participate? Yes, please start towards the end of the pack

Are runners allowed to run with dogs? Dogs are NOT allowed at the Viking Half Marathon and 5k.

Can we participate as a relay team? No, relay teams are not allowed.
